Navy Contractor Is Accused of Bribery

FRESNO — A Burbank contractor who was building a sophisticated facility at China Lake Naval Weapons Center has been accused of bribing a Navy lieutenant.
A federal grand jury in Fresno has returned a four-count indictment against James Vincent Gonzalez of Burbank, the U.S. attorney’s office reported. Gonzalez, who was unavailable for comment, had contracted to build a detection systems laboratory at the Mojave Desert base in Kern County, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Carl Faller.
The indictment alleges that Gonzalez, 60, paid a total of $3,000 to Lt. James Pace. The lieutenant cooperated with government investigators on the case, Faller said.
