Andy Bean, winner of 11 PGA tournaments, may not be going to the U.S. Open and Ben Crenshaw, long one of the game’s top players, definitely isn’t.
Bean was one of three alternates, matching even-par 144 for 36 holes of qualifying at Bay Hill in Orlando, Fla. Crenshaw came up one stroke short at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md., with four-under-par 140. Former Open champion Hubert Green (142) also didn’t make it.
