The Soviet Union has awarded Amoco Corp the right to develop a large oilfield in the Caspian Sea, the official Soviet news agency Tass reported. Officials from the Soviet Oil and Gas Ministry and the Azerbaijan republic chose Chicago-based Amoco’s bid over proposals from Unocal Corp, British Petroleum PLC and Norway’s state oil firm Norskse Stats Oljeselskap A/S.
