Two City Section all-star baseball games that will showcase some of the Valley’s finest senior talent are scheduled today at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The 3-A Division game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, the 4-A game at 7.
Players from the Pacific, Western and West Valley leagues from the 4-A Division compose the West team. The East team consists of players from the North Valley, Mid-Valley and East Valley leagues.
Mike Busby, a pitcher who helped Banning High to reach the 4-A final at Dodger Stadium, is scheduled to start for the West. Chatsworth catcher Adam Pearlman, who hit .368 and knocked in 32 runs this season, rounds out the West’s battery.
El Camino Real’s Gregg Sheren (.430, 34 runs batted in) and San Fernando’s David Rojas (.376) are key infielders for the West. Rojas gave San Fernando the City title when he drove home the winning run off Busby with two out in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 win.
Dereck Ornelas, The Times’ Valley player of the year for Sylmar, is expected to lead the East all-stars. He batted .447 and had 39 RBIs and 12 stolen bases this spring.
