More ‘Thelma & Louise’

Peter Rainer and Sheila Benson’s side-by-side commentaries on “Thelma & Louise” (May 31) are examples of film criticism at its finest. They placed their appreciation of the work of art in the context of broader social issues reflected in film and society at large.
Rainer, in particular, noted trends connecting “Thelma & Louise” to “La Femme Nikita” and other recent releases that made me see them anew.
Theirs is that rare example of criticism that is more thoughtful than the work it critiques.
