A tourist was robbed at gunpoint while alone in his car at Surfer’s Point in Ventura, police said.
Douglas Olson, 42, of Minnesota was in the parking lot on Figueroa Street gazing at the ocean view when two men walked up to his car at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Ventura Police Detective Jerry Thurston said.
One man pointed a gun at Olson through an open car window, while the other held a knife to his throat, Thurston said. One of them hit Olson in the face, he said.
Olson surrendered his wallet, which contained $300, police said.
The victim was staying in a local hotel, but he told police he was leaving town immediately. Thurston said there has been only one other robbery at Surfer’s Point this year, and that it did not appear to be related to Wednesday’s incident.
