A 79-year-old man was burned Sunday morning in a fire that broke out in a four-unit apartment building in Chatsworth, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage to the structure and contents, Los Angeles firefighters said.
The blaze began in the man’s second-floor apartment in the 21400 block of San Jose Street, Battalion Chief John Ware said. The man, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, was able to escape from the burning apartment without aid, Ware said.
Paramedics treated him for burns on his arms and legs, then took him to an area hospital, Ware said. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
