Trains Collide in Scotland; 4 Killed

LONDON — At least four people were killed and up to 30 feared injured after two passenger trains collided head-on late Sunday in Scotland, police said.
The crash happened at Newton station, southeast of the city of Glasgow, a police spokesman said.
The local ambulance service said four people died when the trains, each with three passenger cars, collided.
Firefighters were searching the wreckage for other victims, the ambulance spokesman said, and at least 17 were injured. Police put the number of injured at about 30.
British Rail confirmed that four people had been killed but said no other details were immediately available.
One of the trains was heading for the town of Motherwell and the other was en route to Glasgow when they crashed, British Rail said.
