U.S. Beats Soviets in Volleyball Match

IRVINE — United States team finished its World League Volleyball season by defeating the Soviet Union in a five-game match Sunday at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.
Bryan Ivey, who recently played out his eligibility at USC, had 41 kills and Laguna Beach’s Scott Fortune had 40 kills for the U.S., which rallied to win, 8-15, 14-16, 15-4, 15-12, 16-14.
The U.S. finished 6-10, in third place in its pool. The Soviets (11-5) finished second and will play in the four-team championships in Milan, Italy, this weekend.
