BAGHDAD, Iraq — President Saddam Hussein on Saturday accused the West of caring more for its dogs and cats than for Iraqis starving or dying from lack of medicine.
He told families from the Shiite holy city of Najaf that the West is blocking the lifting of the U.N. trade blockade because its politicians have adopted a policy of hate toward the Iraqi people.
In his most emotional attack so far on the sanctions, Hussein urged Iraqi families to tell their children what is happening so they will never forget.
