Americans Hollis Conway, Jon Drummond, Maicel Malone and Evelyn Ashford won titles at the British track championships at Birmingham, England.
Conway, the Olympic silver medalist and U.S. record-holder, cleared only two heights, yet won the high jump at 7 feet 7 inches. Drummond won the 200 in 20.61 seconds and Malone raced away from a 400-meter field to win her event in 50.89 seconds, a meet record. Ashford won the women’s 100 meters in 11.15 seconds.
