Monterey Park : Hearing on Manager Firing
- Share via
The City Council has scheduled a public hearing Aug. 13 on an appeal by City Manager Mark Lewis, who was fired last month.
Lewis filed his appeal July 26, contending council members did not follow proper procedures when they voted 3 to 2 to fire him earlier that week. The council suspended him for 30 days, effectively giving him notice.
Three council members accuse Lewis of having a poor management style that led to the resignations of several key department heads.
They also were angry that the city manager did not disclose to the council a recent legal opinion saying he may have violated city personnel policies.
Lewis, who became city manager in 1988, maintains he has done nothing wrong, and was unfairly targetted by vindictive council members.
