HONORED: In honor of his prodigious efforts to analyze the Latin American novel and short story, the government of Venezuela has bestowed its highest cultural award on longtime UC Irvine professor Seymour Menton. . . . After winning the Order of Andres Bello, named for a leader in Venezuela’s independence struggle, Menton launched an international lecture series at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Now Menton has jetted to Colombia, where he’ll preside over a literary conference.
