Regarding your story on George Hobbs, mayor of Santa Maria, I found it appalling that someone so ignorant and bigoted could repeatedly be elected.
Local residents should be ashamed and embarrassed by his insensitivity and lack of compassion he claims to have for people. His idea that gays are dying of AIDS because “the heavens have had enough with gay pride” is ridiculous, and all of his remarks contradict his claim of “strong Christian ethics.”
It is exactly this kind of thinking that keeps the world in a state of turmoil.
