County Cuts Size of Planned Shopping Area

A planned shopping center in Lancaster that drew community criticism as too large was reduced in size Thursday by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
The developer, Sierra Pacific Group, had hoped to persuade supervisors to allow the full 12.5-acre center at Avenue L and 45th Street West, which would have included a market, a drugstore and a fast-food restaurant.
Instead, Supervisor Mike Antonovich asked the developer to revise the project so it would fit on 7.5 acres, most of which was already zoned for commercial use. The board unanimously approved the smaller center.
