North Korean Visitor

On Aug. 12, Kang Dae-Yong, the first North Korean civilian allowed to come to the United States for a family visit (Metro, Aug. 13), landed in Los Angeles to attend his mother’s funeral. This is a very significant and emotional event for Koreans here.
Since The Times revealed the sad story of Haeng-Ok Kang, in a July article by her grandson, Times reporter Hyungwon Kang, all Koreans have been on a roller-coaster of hope, as to whether she could see her son within her last few days.
This milestone of a new relationship between the United States and North Korea was achieved by great support from the Korean community. Also we cannot deny that the Los Angeles Times performed a great role to make this event history.
