Soviet Groups’ O.C. Visits Believed Not in Jeopardy

Despite the massive political upheaval this week in the Soviet Union, the appearances of two Soviet orchestras scheduled to perform in Orange County do not seem to be in jeopardy, according to New York representatives of the groups and the Orange County Philharmonic Society, which is sponsoring their performances.
The Moscow Virtuosi, scheduled for Oct. 25 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, is in Spain as part of the chamber group’s three-year residency in that country and should not be affected by any changes in the Soviet Union, according to a representative of Columbia Artists Management, which represents the group.
The appearance by the Moscow Philharmonic at the Center on April 10 also appears firm “so far,” according to a spokeswoman of ICM Artists. “We have other Soviet groups coming sooner than that, and we are conducting business with them as usual,” the spokeswoman said. “We are in direct communication daily (with the Soviet Union), and there has been no interruption in our business or in our communication so far.”
In addition, Center president Thomas R. Kendrick said through a spokesman that talks for a return visit by the Kirov Ballet are in the “preliminary stages” and that “no one can say at this point how negotiations will be affected.”
