Recruiting Gay Police Officers
I believe in equal opportunity. Therefore, when I noticed in the newspaper (Aug. 7-8) that certain gay and lesbian police officers had petitioned the Los Angeles City Council for the right to openly recruit homosexual people for the police department, it gave me an idea. What about open solicitation for bisexuals, heterosexuals, adulterers and nymphomaniacs?
After all, these are all alternative lifestyles. Normally, these types of people would not be given the privilege to openly recruit others of their own persuasion. But if members of one lifestyle preference can do it, is it not discrimination to disallow the others?
I had always thought that discrimination was based upon such obvious things as race or gender. Now I know differently. I, for one, want equal protection under the law for all alternative lifestyles.
