Reader’s Digest Profit Up 10%: The company reported a profit of $22.1 million, or 18 cents per share, for the fourth quarter ended June 30. That was up from $20 million, or 16 cents per share, for the year-earlier period. Reader’s Digest Assn., based in Pleasantville, N.Y., said revenue for the quarter was $534.7 million, up 11% from last year. For the year, profit rose to $209.1 million, or $1.74 per share, from the previous year’s $176 million, or $1.48 per share. Profit for the year was up 19% at the company’s flagship magazine and 18% at its books and home entertainment segment. But the company’s five special-interest magazines widened their loss to $29.4 million from $25.7 million a year earlier.
