MOSCOW BOUNDLESS: Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to miss the bus. The Newport Aquatics Center’s junior canoe and kayak team was excited about the chance to participate in the Moscow Invitational. It held a fund-raiser to come up with the $15,000 needed for the trip. But when the fund drive left the team short, members had to cancel their airline tickets. . . . “We were real disappointed that we didn’t raise the money,” said their leader, Jirka Batlik. “Obviously, we’re not disappointed anymore.” . . . If the team had raised the money, it would have been bound for Moscow Sunday night, amid the chaos and confusion of a coup attempt.
