Landlord Pays $350,000 to Slain Woman’s Family

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The landlord of a young woman slain in last year’s student murders has paid her parents $350,000 to settle a lawsuit charging that security at the apartment building was lax, court records show.
Although the parents of 18-year-old Christa Hoyt and landlord Elbert J. Hoover agreed not to disclose details of the July 15 settlement, a copy was added to Hoyt’s estate file, which is a public record, the St. Petersburg Times reported Wednesday.
