Ohio State football Coach John Cooper denied star tailback Robert Smith’s claim that the coaching staff is unconcerned with academics and player safety.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s completely false,” Cooper said. “I have never in my coaching career asked a young man to miss an academic appointment of any kind for anything related to football.”
Smith, a unanimous choice as Big Ten Conference freshman of the year last season, abruptly quit the team Friday.
