In response to “Parents Fault Officers Over Treatment of Retarded Son,” and “Missing Retarded Youth, Family Reunited,” Part A, Aug. 14-15:
In your article, Ventura County Assistant Sheriff Richard Bryce said that his department does not notify relatives of mentally handicapped inmates of their release, even if they request notification.
I hope he wouldn’t release a 5-year-old mind in a 5-year-old body without notifying relatives: So why would he release a 5-year-old mind in a 19-year-old body without notifying relatives?
I hope those in control of Ventura County will waste no time in changing their law to take care of this terrible error.
