La Verne : Helicopter Panel Named
Mayor John Harry Blickenstaff appointed a committee to try to solve the problem of noise from low-flying helicopters operating from nearby flying schools.
Blickenstaff appointed Councilman Patrick J. Gatti to the committee and opened membership to the Brackett Field airport management and residents who had complained about noise.
Blickenstaff suggested that the group recommend modifications of training flight patterns that would disturb residents less. He asked for a report by early October.
In a related issue, the council unanimously approved a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department plan to move its Aero Bureau to the field, saying the department’s helicopters are quieter than those of the flying schools, that the department is willing to work with the city to further minimize noise and that the additional Sheriff’s Department personnel in the area will benefit the city.
