Los Angeles County prosecutors on Friday filed a misdemeanor lewd conduct charge against the superintendent of the Lancaster-based Eastside Union School District, who was arrested Aug. 28 for allegedly masturbating in a park restroom.
Robert W. Wakeling, 51, of Lancaster, the district’s top executive since 1988, is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 23 in Antelope Municipal Court. He faces a maximum penalty of six months in County Jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
The board of trustees of the three-school, 1,700-student district placed Wakeling on paid leave after his arrest by an undercover sheriff’s vice deputy at Jane Reynolds Park in Lancaster. Wakeling has declined to comment on the case. He was released without bail shortly after his arrest.
