The International Amateur Athletic Federation shelved the African United Games, which would have marked the return of South African track and field athletes to the international scene.
An official of the IAAF, the world ruling body of track and field, said the Games, which had been scheduled next month as a two-part event in Dakar, Senegal, and Johannesburg, South Africa, were considered “premature.”
