Dale Earnhardt led second-day qualifying for the Tyson Holly Farms 400 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway.
Earnhardt, who leads Ricky Rudd by 59 points in the battle for the 1991 Winston Cup championship, will start 16th in today’s 33-car lineup. Rudd stood on his first-day lap of 115.367 and will start 22nd.
Harry Gant won the pole and will be attempting to win his fifth consecutive Winston cup event.
