Two men who were killed when their biplane crashed in Lake Tahoe were identified as a local developer and the chief of the North Tahoe Fire Protection District. The victims, pilot Don Beck, the developer, and Ray Martin were pulled from submerged wreckage that was located in 80 feet of water by search crews using underwater cameras and sonar equipment. The plane crashed about 300 yards off Burnt Cedar Beach after doing aerobatic maneuvers above the lake. Beck was a aerobatic pilot and frequent competitor in the National Championship Air Races in Reno. Friends and family said Beck’s aerobatic flying was a common sight over Lake Tahoe.
