SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Dodgers-Braves Race Peaks as NHL Begins

As the National League West pennant race comes to a dramatic conclusion, the weekend’s other television sports viewing choices will include college and pro football and the opening weekend of the National Hockey League season.
Baseball: The Dodgers and San Francisco Giants will play today at noon on Channels 2 and 8. If the race is still on after today, Sunday’s game will be televised by KTTV Channel 11 at 1 p.m., and TBS will air the Atlanta Braves-Houston Astros game at 11 a.m. ESPN will decide tonight whether it will air the Dodgers or the Braves game on Sunday.
College Football: There are seven telecasts on various outlets involving teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25. California (No. 18) will play UCLA (No. 24) at 12:30 p.m. today on ABC (Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42). The highest-ranked team on television this weekend is Washington (No. 3), which will face Arizona at 3:30 p.m. on Prime Ticket.
Pro Football: The Denver Broncos (4-1) and Houston Oilers (3-1)--each leading their respective divisions, the AFC’s West and Central--will play Sunday at 10 a.m. on NBC (Channels 4, 36 and 39). The New York Giants (2-3) will try to get out of last place in the NFC East when they face the Phoenix Cardinals (3-2) at 1 p.m. on Channel 2. Turner Network Television’s game at 5 p.m. will match the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2) and the winless Indianapolis Colts (0-5).
Hockey: Two more Edmonton Oilers-turned-Kings, Jari Kurri and Charlie Huddy, will return to Edmonton for the first time Sunday when the Kings and Oilers play at 5 p.m. on Prime Ticket.
