Taft 14, Cleveland 14--Eugene Smith of Cleveland blocked a 35-yard, field-goal attempt by Carlos Mensilla as time expired to preserve the tie at Cleveland.
The block was the second of the game for Cleveland. Darnell Davis had blocked a Mensilla kick on a point-after attempt that would have given Taft (0-2-1, 0-0-1) a lead. Taft had tied the score, 14-14, on a nine-yard run by Durell Patton with 9:18 left.
Cleveland (1-1-1, 0-0-1) drove to the Taft 19-yard line on the ensuing possession, but Brian Spear missed a 37-yard field-goal attempt with 2:03 left.
Cleveland took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter when Ibn Bilal scored on a one-yard run and Coron Lewis ran for the two-point conversion. Bilal gained a game-high 127 yards in 19 carries.
Taft tied the score when Mensilla recovered a fumbled punt by Cleveland in the end zone, and Karlon Mack added the two-point conversion.
