McPhie Gains Tennis Semifinals

Brian McPhie of USC, Mike Roberts of UC Irvine, David Kass of Michigan and Lazlo Markowitz of UC Santa Barbara each recorded third-round victories Saturday to advance to today’s semifinals of the Warner Center Club West Coast tennis tournament in Woodland Hills.

McPhie defeated Howard Joffe of Pepperdine, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2; Roberts defeated Andras Lanyi of USC, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2); Kass defeated David Ekerot of USC, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4; and Markowitz defeated Steve Campbell of Rice, 6-2, 6-7 (7-4), 6-1.

Kass will play Roberts at 8:30 a.m., followed by Markowitz against McPhie. The final is scheduled for 2 p.m.
