LAS VEGAS — Redshirt freshman quarterback Mike McCoy threw two touchdown passes and running back Reggie Webb scored twice as Cal State Long Beach broke a 14-game road losing streak Saturday night with a 34-19 victory over Nevada Las Vegas.
The victory was the 49ers’ first under Coach Willie Brown, who replaced the late George Allen. Long Beach, 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Big West, had not won on the road since a victory at Boise State on Sept. 16, 1989.
McCoy completed 14 of 29 passes for 247 yards, and Webb gained 127 yards in 11 carries.
After leading 17-13 at halftime, the 49ers broke the game open on McCoy’s three-yard touchdown pass to Joel Glick late in the third quarter and Webb’s 57-yard run with 10:54 left in the game.
Las Vegas (2-3, 0-1) took a 7-3 lead with 10:09 left in the first half on Derek Black’s seven-yard touchdown run, but the 49ers reclaimed the lead on the next play from scrimmage as McCoy connected with Terrel Davis for a 78-yard touchdown pass play.
