You’ll find neither “Still Life With Clump o’ Hair” nor antique perming rods displayed in the Museum of Hair. Instead, the Pasadena salon, where haircuts go for $25 and up, features temporary exhibits of paintings, sculptures and other works.
Some deal in weighty themes--anti-war and anti-censorship, to name a few--intended to get clients to think about causes. Others, such as the current “Mosaic Madness: From the Kitchen Sink to the Sleigh Bed,” a furniture collection by Bob Wiley, are pure fun.
Salon owner Sandra Cruze, a former bartender at Al’s Bar, an artists’ hangout in downtown Los Angeles, views the exhibits as an unusual link between artists and the public. “We’re not in New York, we don’t frequent museums the way they do. So I give artists an opportunity to show art to people who normally wouldn’t see it.”
