Burned Out: It’s time for the Grateful Dead to take a rest, says guitarist Jerry Garcia, who adds that the 26-year-old rock band isn’t having the fun on stage that it used to. Garcia says in the Oct. 31 issue of Rolling Stone magazine that the band will be taking a six-month break from touring in the near future in order to produce some new material. “The music is going to have to take some turns. And we’re also going to have to construct new enthusiasm for ourselves, because we’re getting a little burned out,” said Garcia, 49. The break will be the group’s first extended hiatus since the mid-’70s.
