MISSION VIEJO : Council Disbands 3 City Commissions

Beginning Jan. 1, the number of city commissions will be cut in half.
A unanimous City Council vote last week will leave the city with three commissions--the Planning Commission, the Traffic and Transportation Commission and the newly formed Community Services Commission.
Gone will be the Seniors Commission, Drugs and Substance Abuse Commission, and Parks and Recreation Commission. Also disbanded will be the Economic Development Commission, which will be taken over by the Planning Commission.
Council members said the streamlining process was overdue and added that it will save the city money and staff time.
The expanded Community Service Commission, which will be served by parks and recreation staff, will have seven commissioners. Five seats will be appointed by a council member and two at-large positions will be filled by vote of the council.
