A 43-year-old man who was struck and killed while trying to run across the Ventura Freeway late Sunday has been identified as Ronald Bowersock of Ventura, Deputy Coroner Zelmira Isaac said Tuesday.
Bowersock apparently died of a head injury, but Isaac said she could not confirm the cause of death determined in an autopsy Tuesday. A test showed that Bowersock had a blood-alcohol level of 0.24%, three times the legal limit.
The accident occurred in Ventura at 11:36 p.m. on the McBride Bridge, which supports the Ventura Freeway as it crosses the Ventura River.
Bowersock was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m. Monday at Ventura County Medical Center, Isaac said.
