La Verne : Parks Department Renamed
The La Verne Parks and Human Services Department has been renamed the Parks and Recreation Department.
At the request of Bill Aguirre, director of the department, the City Council in August considered changing the name but rejected the first proposal, “Department of Community Services,” as too vague.
For the same reason, council members didn’t like the name proposed Monday: “Parks and Community Resources Department.” Instead, they chose a name they said would be widely understood.
Only Councilman Patrick J. Gatti voted against “Parks and Recreation,” saying he does not consider the organized sports the department oversees--such as Little League--to be recreation.
