Nordhoff 21, Santa Paula 7--Nacho Vega used his legs both running and punting for the host Rangers. Vega rushed 18 times for 124 yards and gave Nordhoff (4-3, 1-0) a 21-0 lead with a 54-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. As a punter, Vega helped give the Rangers good field position by twice pinning Santa Paula insided its 10-yard line.
Nordhoff hurt Santa Paula (3-4, 1-1) with its special-teams play the entire game. Robert Young blocked a punt and Aaron Fabbian and Justin Monical teamed to stop Santa Paula punter Eddie Rabago for an eight-yard loss on another punt attempt.
The Rangers took a 7-0 lead late in the second quarter on Adam Blundell’s eight-yard run and went ahead, 13-0, in the third quarter on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Steve Saum to Mike York on a fake field-goal attempt.
Santa Paula scored only on a one-yard run midway through the fourth quarter by Rabago. Tony Blythe had 13 tackles for Nordhoff.
