SANTA PAULA : Car Kills Boy When He Runs Into Street

A Santa Paula 2-year-old boy was killed Monday when he darted into the street and was struck by a car, authorities said.

Vicente Medina was playing near his family’s residence in the 100 block of Sheppard Road when he ran into the street from behind a parked truck, Santa Paula police said.

He was hit by a car driven by Sally Menchaca, 70, of Santa Paula. Menchaca was not cited in the 12:30 p.m. accident.

Medina was taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead an hour later in the emergency room. Ventura County Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens tentatively blamed the death on head and neck injuries, pending an autopsy scheduled for today.
