Film Fest: Iran opened a weeklong film festival in the United Arab Emirates Thursday--its first since the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war and a first step toward introducing new films to Gulf Arab states. Cinema officials say that if the response is encouraging, films will be shown on a regular basis in a bid to increase cultural ties with their neighbors. Iran has a thriving film industry that produces 70 films a year for domestic distribution and export.
