Nation IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Migraines Afflict Poor, Study Finds

Migraine headaches among persons making $10,000 or less were 60% more common than among people in households making more than $30,000, according to a study that drew responses from 9,507 households. Poverty-related conditions--high stress, poor diet, less access to medical care--could trigger migraines, researchers said, but migraines may also cause poverty by undermining people’s earning power. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Assn., also found that the malady disables men as readily as women and can cause four of five sufferers to miss school or work.
