Islamic Housing Talks Called HUD Violation

That the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development has engaged in “confidential” discussions with the Nation of Islam’s “security agency” (Times, Dec. 22) is in violation of its own rules and regulations, as well as federal law regarding discrimination in employment.
Public housing must be made available on a non-racial, creedal basis, and integrated. The nation of Islam restricts its membership to those who profess the Islamic faith and accept the disciplines the Rev. Louis Farrakhan imposes; otherwise they are booted out.
The Nation of Islam security patrol by its very nature would thus be closed to all but its followers and in violation of our civil right laws with respect to equal employment opportunities.
This violation is the most telling reason why the contract should not be discussed, let alone signed.
