Term Limits

As a former city politician I could not agree more with Peter King’s column “Hanging Out at Willie’s Club--What a Life” (Dec. 13).

It really hit home. I spent eight years as a mayor and city councilman in South El Monte (1968-76) and must say that he hit it right on the head. I knew that I was not cut out to be a professional politician. I watched councilmen elected the same time I was in 1968, who were surely politicians and went on to the Legislature and are still there.

In my eight years as a city politician I spent numerous times in Sacramento lobbying for some city cause. The mention of the restaurant Frank Fat’s and the old Torch Club and the stories that floated around may have been inflated, but many were true.

I am a staunch supporter of limited terms. I spent two terms and feel that I contributed much to my city. I like to tell people that I went out of office on my own choice and not the voters’ choice.
