Cerritos : Parents, Students Demand Return of Ex-Principal

A group of 40 parents and students has demanded the reinstatement of former Carver Elementary School Principal Robert Beall, calling him the victim of a small, unrepresentative group of parents and teachers.
Officials of the ABC Unified School District transferred the controversial Beall in December from the Cerritos school to an administrative post at the district’s adult school.
Supt. Larry Lucas said the move was necessary to heal divisiveness that flared when parent Calethia Henderson, who is black, complained that her son’s kindergarten class had been segregated under Beall’s direction.
District officials and Beall denied the allegation. The kindergarten classes, which they said had been grouped based on testing results, were quickly reorganized to make them more racially balanced.
Beall supporters overflowed the boardroom Tuesday. “I don’t believe the classes were racially segregated. The board listened to a few parents who were screaming the loudest,” said parent Faye Prudholme, who is also black. Group members said they have already received 100 cards expressing support for Beall.
