A 21-year-old sailor died Wednesday on Interstate 8 when the motorcycle he was driving hit the rear of a truck and threw him in the path of another truck, officials said.
The 6:45 a.m. accident occurred when the man, whose identity has not been released, failed to slow for traffic and ran into the back of a pickup driven by Jose Maria Huerta, 26, of San Diego, who was driving west on Interstate 8 near California 163, CHP spokesman Phil Konstantin said.
The man then fell off his motorcycle and was run over by a truck driven by Dorcy Conrad, 51, of El Cajon.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he died shortly after 7 a.m., the coroner’s office said.
The sailor’s body was turned over to officials at the Naval Hospital, a CHP official said.
