Panel to Reconsider Hillside Development

The Regional Planning Commission has voted to reconsider a scaled-back version of the La Vina project, a controversial hillside housing development on the grounds of a former tuberculosis sanitarium in Altadena.
The commission rejected the plan in November, citing concerns about earthquakes and fires. Some commissioners also criticized the proposed clearing of the 220-acre site, most of which lies within Angeles National Forest.
But the developers, Southwest Diversified and Cantwell-Anderson, brought back a revised plan, reducing the number of homes from 272 to 229. The commission voted 3 to 1 Wednesday, with Chairwoman Sadie Clark abstaining, to hold a hearing March 4.
