No Friend of the Airport

Thanks to James E. Foy of Burbank for his enlightening and instructive letter Jan. 5 regarding the “Friends of the Hollywood Burbank Airport.”
Now I understand the philosophy behind the “Friends.”
At first, I could not comprehend why Burbank Airport needed any more “friends.” It already has powerful and influential ones in the form of the business community, including the airlines and the FAA. Now Foy makes it crystal clear: The “Friends” love noise, especially aircraft noise.
They get pretty peeved with those they call “airport haters” who, for some unfathomable reason, expect to live in peace and quiet in their own homes. But these are lightweight opponents, as Foy must realize. Despite their protests, the airport generally gets what it wants.
The airport is not unique in its ability to create jobs. Any commercial enterprise will do that, and many would create no noise pollution or air pollution, as the airport does. LAX is still in business. There are 30 or more airports in Southern California. Do we need to have an airport in every neighborhood?
If Foy really wants to swap houses, and can guarantee that he is not near any flight pattern, I do know some people who might be willing to trade, even a house south of Ventura Boulevard. He will have to arrange the details himself. However, if he is located under a flight pattern, no deal. He should just stay put--and enjoy.
