OXNARD : Ban on Credit Cards for Travel Revoked

Oxnard’s City Council has revoked a 2-year-old ban on city credit cards issued for employee travel.
The council voted 4 to 1 Tuesday to distribute MasterCard or Visa cards with a credit line of $1,000 to $2,000 to city officials who travel frequently.
The city had an American Express account until 1989, when the council eliminated the credit card program to cut costs.
City administrators say the loss of the credit cards has severely complicated the reimbursement procedure for employee travel, and most council members agreed.
But Councilman Michael Plisky, who cast the dissenting vote, called the credit cards an “unnecessary temptation” and predicted that they would inflate the city’s travel budget.
