SIERRA CLUB--The second of five statewide political workshops is scheduled for Angeles Chapter Sierra Club volunteers today from 1 to 3 p.m. at Galileo Pryne Auditorium, Harvey Mudd College in Claremont. The goal of the Sierra Club is to get 1,000 volunteers to go door to door and talk about environmental issues.
KINGDOM DAY--The Kingdom Day Parade, honoring civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., begins at 11 a.m. at Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Also, the Watts community will dedicate a memorial to King on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Shopping Center, 103rd St. and Compton Avenue.
RENT CONTROL--The Bell Gardens City Council will consider proposals to place controls on rents. Nearly 80% of the city’s residents are renters. The council meets at 7 p.m. Monday at Ross Hall Auditorium, 6662 Loveland St., Bell Gardens.
SOCCER DISCUSSION--Officials of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District will debate the future of adult-league soccer games on school grounds, Thursday at 7 p.m. in the boardroom at 12820 S. Pioneer Blvd., Norwalk.
