Long Beach : Study Urged for Linking Mass Transit to Naval Site
- Share via
The Long Beach City Council has voted to send a letter to Rep. Glenn M. Anderson (D-San Pedro) urging appropriation of $4 million in federal funds to study the feasibility of a mass transit link between the downtown Convention Center and the Naval Station on Terminal Island.
Congress last year authorized the money to evaluate a possible transit link between downtown and the proposed DisneySea site. The death of the DisneySea proposal eliminated the need for such a study, but now the council would like to use the money to examine the possibility of running a transit line to the Naval Station site after the Navy moves out in a few years. If the Navy can be persuaded to relinquish the property, the council has dreams of establishing a commercial airport there.
